BENEFITS & ADVANTAGES

Benefits of LVT Flooring UK Homeowners Should Know

LVT has become one of the most popular floors in the UK for good reason. It solves the problems that catch people out with wood and laminate, without giving up the look. Here is what it actually offers day to day.

100% WATERPROOF
The vinyl construction does not swell, warp or stain when it gets wet, so LVT flooring is safe in kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms and hallways where wet shoes and spills are part of normal life.
REALISTIC WOOD AND STONE DESIGNS
High definition printing combined with embossed surface texture means the grain you see lines up with the grain you feel. From a standing position, a good LVT oak floor is difficult to tell apart from timber.
WARM AND QUIET UNDERFOOT
Vinyl is softer and warmer than tile, laminate or SPC, so rooms feel more comfortable and footsteps are noticeably quieter. This makes a real difference in bedrooms, flats and upstairs rooms.
HARD WEARING WEAR LAYER
A clear protective wear layer sits over the design, guarding against scratches, scuffs and daily traffic. The thicker the wear layer, the harder the floor can work.
REPAIRABLE PLANK BY PLANK
If a single plank is damaged, it can be lifted and swapped rather than replacing the whole floor. Keep a spare pack and repairs are almost invisible.
UNDERFLOOR HEATING COMPATIBLE
Most LVT flooring works with compatible underfloor heating systems up to twenty seven degrees at the surface, giving you a warm floor that stays stable.
Engineered wood flooring boards and oak flooring
Water Resistant
Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms & busy homes
Built for Everyday Life
Durable flooring that handles daily wear
Easy to Maintain
Simple to clean and hassle-free to care for
Realistic Wood & Stone Looks
Natural designs with authentic textures
THE SMARTER CHOICE

LVT Flooring vs Other Flooring Options

LVT, SPC, laminate and real wood all end up in the same rooms, so it helps to see exactly where each one wins. Here is a straight comparison with no sales spin.

01 LVT VS SPC

LVT Flooring vs SPC Flooring

Both are vinyl based and both are waterproof. The difference is the core. LVT is flexible and is usually bonded down, which makes it warmer, quieter and more forgiving underfoot. SPC has a rigid stone composite core that resists dents better and hides small dips in the subfloor. Choose LVT for comfort and a premium finish. Choose SPC where the subfloor is uneven or the floor will take heavy point loads.

Feature LVT SPC
Core Flexible vinyl Rigid stone composite
Waterproof Yes Yes
Feel underfoot Warmer and softer Firmer
Sound Quieter Slightly louder
Subfloor preparation Must be very flat More forgiving
Typical fitting Glue down or click Click
02 LVT VS LAMINATE

LVT Flooring vs Laminate Flooring

Laminate uses a fibreboard core, which is where the trouble starts if water gets in. LVT has no wood content at all.

Waterproof rather than water resistant

LVT can be fitted in bathrooms and utility rooms. Standard laminate cannot.

Warmer and quieter

Laminate can sound hollow underfoot. LVT feels solid and absorbs sound.

Thinner build up

LVT adds far less height, which matters under existing doors and against thresholds.

Repairable plank by plank

A damaged LVT plank can be replaced. Damaged laminate usually means lifting a run of boards.

03 LVT VS REAL WOOD

LVT Flooring vs Solid and Engineered Wood

Real wood gives you genuine grain and a floor that can be sanded and refinished, and nothing copies that entirely. LVT gives you the wood look in rooms where timber should not go, at a lower price and with almost no maintenance.

Feature LVT Real Wood
Material Vinyl with a printed design Natural hardwood
Bathrooms and wet areas Suitable Not suitable
Refinishing Not possible Sandable
Maintenance Sweep and damp mop Cleaning plus oiling or lacquer care
Cost per m² Lower Higher
04 LVT VS CERAMIC TILES

LVT Flooring vs Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles

Both are vinyl based and both are waterproof. The difference is the core. LVT is flexible and is usually bonded down, which makes it warmer, quieter and more forgiving underfoot.

Warmer underfoot

Ceramic is cold without underfloor heating. LVT never feels cold in the same way.

No grout lines

Nothing to discolour and nothing to scrub, which is why LVT is popular in family bathrooms.

Faster to fit

There is no setting time, no grouting stage and far less mess and disruption.

Softer if something is dropped

Glassware and crockery are far more likely to survive a fall on LVT than on tile.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

How Much LVT Flooring Do You Need?

Ordering the right amount first time avoids a second delivery and a possible batch difference in colour. Here is the method we use with customers every day.

01
MEASURE THE ROOM

Measure the Room

Measure the length and width of the room in meters and multiply them for the floor area. Split awkward rooms into rectangles and add the totals together.

02
ALLOW FOR WASTE

Add for Waste

Add ten per cent for cutting waste on a standard plank or tile layout, and fifteen per cent for herringbone or any diagonal pattern.

03
CHECK BOX COVERAGE

Check Box Coverage

Check the coverage per box on the product page and round up to the next full box, since LVT is sold by the box rather than by the meter.

04
KEEP A SPARE BOX

Keep a Spare Box

If a plank is ever damaged, a matching replacement from the same batch makes the repair invisible.

Send us your room sizes and we will check the quantity for you before you order.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

LVT Flooring Installation Guide

LVT is straightforward to fit, but it is honest about the subfloor beneath it. Get the preparation right and the floor will look flawless for years. Rush it and every bump underneath will show through.

Note: Glue-down LVT does not use underlay. Click LVT only takes a thin, firm underlay made for vinyl, never using soft laminate foam.

01

Acclimatize the Boxes

Leave boxes in the installation room for 24–48 hours at normal temperature. This prevents vinyl movement after fitting.

02

Prepare the Subfloor

Make sure the subfloor is clean, dry, level, and smooth. Use latex compound for screeds or plywood for timber, and check for damp before starting.

03

Fit the Floor

Glue down LVT with the recommended adhesive, then roll the tiles into place. Click LVT floats on a thin underlay with a 5–10mm expansion gap.

04

Finish and Aftercare

Cover expansion gaps with skirting or beading and use threshold bars at doors. Avoid walking on glue-down floors until set, and wait 72 hours before wet cleaning.

LVT FLOORING COST UK

How Much Does LVT Flooring Cost in the UK?

LVT flooring in the UK generally costs between fifteen and sixty pounds per square meter for the material. The price is driven by the wear layer, the thickness, the quality of the printed design and whether the product is click or glue down. Fitting is usually charged separately at around fifteen to thirty five pounds per square meter, with pattern layouts and subfloor preparation costing more. Here is a simple guide.
TIER
PRICE PER M²
WHAT YOU GET
Budget LVT
£15–£25 per m²
Thinner boards with a 0.2mm to 0.3mm wear layer and simpler designs. Fine for bedrooms and light use rooms or a short term let.
Mid range LVT
£25–£40 per m²
A 0.4mm to 0.55mm wear layer, better embossing and more realistic wood and stone designs. The right bracket for kitchens, hallways and family homes.
Premium LVT
£40+ per m²
Thick 0.55mm and above wear layers, registered embossing, wider planks, herringbone formats and commercial grade performance.

Also budget for: adhesive for glue down, latex levelling compound or plywood if the subfloor needs work, a compatible underlay for click LVT, beading and threshold bars.

LOOKING AFTER YOUR FLOOR

How to Clean and Care For LVT Flooring

LVT is one of the easiest floors to look after, and a few small habits will keep it looking new for a very long time.

If a plank is ever damaged, it can be lifted and replaced individually, which is why we always suggest keeping a spare box from the same batch.

01

Sweep or vacuum regularly

Sweep or vacuum regularly with the beater bar switched off, since loose grit is what actually scratches a vinyl floor.

02

Use a Damp Mop Only

Mop with a damp mop and a cleaner made for luxury vinyl. Avoid bleach, solvent based products and anything abrasive.

03

Wipe Spills Immediately

Wipe spills as they happen. Nothing will soak in, but sitting liquid can leave a film.

04

Protect Furniture Legs

Fit felt pads under furniture legs and wide castor cups under heavy items to prevent indentation.

05

Use Doormats and Rugs

Use a doormat at every external door to stop grit being walked in, and avoid rubber backed mats, which can discolour vinyl over time.

Maintain Healthy Humidity
06

Maintain Healthy Humidity

Keep the room within normal temperatures and avoid long periods of strong direct sunlight on the same patch, or use blinds, as intense sun can fade any printed floor.
